The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction

Back in March I fell upon a preview for a Hulk game that was scheduled for release later this year. I immediately posted a rant where I went into the details of why I think making a good Hulk game is difficult. Well the game was finally released in August, and I purchased my copy shortly thereafter. As I started playing, I thought back on the rant I posted in March and I could feel my words getting shoved down my throat. This game is awesome!

I still stand by most of the reasons I gave in that rant. Making a good Hulk game ISN'T easy, but the developers did a fantastic job of overcoming the challenges. The main attraction is the movement if you ask me. You can charge your jumps in mid air, so if you time the release, you effectively bounce around town taking these huge leaps. It does a great job of making you feel like you're the Hulk. Bouncing from the top of a building gives an even greater opportunity to use the various movement options you have while in the air. As a comic book geek, the only question mark that was raised right off the bat was Hulk running on walls, but it's fun enough that even the most anal of purists can shrug it off and enjoy the game IMO.

The enemies and bosses get massive enough to make you feel like you really need all the kickass stuff you can do. Hammer tossing tanks into enemies several times Hulk's size feels really cool, especially when you feel like you're fighting for your life while doing it. This game is definitely a prime candidate for the "Next game I'll actually finish" award, although re-finishing Killer 7 is running neck in neck with it.
